Our Story
Maggie Lena Walker built a bank, a newspaper, a department store, and a movement — each one an act of the same conviction. She understood that economic power, information, commerce, and civic voice were the same fight. The Foundation bearing her name carries that understanding forward.
Our vision is to see Maggie Walker's model of economic power, civic voice, and community ownership recognized, replicated, and still building. Each of us has carried her example into our own work over the years, and this Foundation is how we do it together, formally and with intention.
